Mike Williamson has urged caution amid Kadeem Harris’s impressive early impact for Carlisle United.

The recent signing turned in another eyecatching performance in the 1-1 draw at Bromley.

It came in the 31-year-old’s first league start since his move to Brunton Park on a short-term deal.

Harris, three appearances into his United spell, has already shown clear signs of his quality.

Head coach Williamson says the ex-Sheffield Wednesday and Cardiff City man has shown his attributes but must be handled carefully so soon into his return to first-team action.

“He’s building like we are building,” said Williamson.

“He needs time. He's had a lot of minutes now, so he needs to de-load a little bit.

“But yes – he was brilliant on Tuesday [in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy win at Morecambe] and he dusted himself down.”

Harris recently joined United on a deal until January, with some fans already feeling Carlisle should move to tie him down for longer.

Williamson, asked about that by BBC Cumbria last week, said: “I think it's an arrangement that works for both.

“We know his quality, obviously. He hasn't had much football in the last six months, so we've just got to be careful in that respect.

“It’s up to us to try and coach in terms of the understanding and the detail of the patterns that we look at.

“But then when it comes to those situations, obviously it pays off with his experience and his quality and things like that that he’s got in his locker.”

Williamson has also welcomed the return to league action of Ben Williams.

The wing-back went back into the side on Saturday for his first league outing in more than two months.

The former Barnsley and Cheltenham Town man conceded the penalty that resulted in Carlisle going behind at Bromley before their late fightback.

But Williamson felt the 25-year-old otherwise showed plenty of positive signs.

“I thought Ben, in terms of performance, was fantastic,” said the Cumbrians’ head coach.

“He's got a real willingness to want to go forward.

“There were a lot of really pleasing things, but we just had to make changes [in the second half] to make sure we're looking after them and be careful.

“The boys who came on continued that in terms of the habits and the attacking football that we played, so that's pleasing as well.”
