Mike Williamson says he’s glad to have Dylan McGeouch back in the first-team picture at Carlisle United.

The midfielder was back in the squad last Saturday for the first time in nearly two months.

The experienced Scot has returned from a calf injury which has kept him out since Williamson’s first game in charge.

United’s head coach says 31-year-old McGeouch is still building up his fitness but his availability is a boost as the Blues prepare for more important League Two fixtures.

“He hasn't had too much training, but to be in and around it, we were really keen to get that,” said Williamson.

“The more training we get, the sharper he'll be and he'll be ready soon.”

McGeouch was poised to come on at Bromley after Callum Guy was hurt in a second-half challenge.

But Guy battled on amid a strong individual performance as the Blues fought back for a 1-1 draw.

McGeouch’s return is a plus at a time United are without injured midfielders Ethan Robson and Harrison Biggins.

Harrison Neal is back available after serving a one-game suspension at the weekend, while Williamson fielded wing-back Cameron Harper in the middle on Saturday.

Williamson and his squad are now preparing for a home game after three away games in eight days.

Carlisle emerged unbeaten from trips to Salford City, Morecambe and Bromley in league and cup.

The head coach says that, after giving his squad a breather at the start of this week, things are now being stepped up with third-placed Doncaster Rovers due to visit on Saturday.

“The lads [needed] a day or two to deload and rest, but then we’re looking forward to a couple of clean weeks [without midweek or away games] in terms of contact time and training sessions,” said Williamson.
