Mike Williamson has welcomed the return of “man mountain” Georgie Kelly to fitness for Carlisle United.

The striker made his comeback against Doncaster Rovers after two months out with a calf injury.

Kelly is now hoping to kickstart his Blues career having suffered from repeated injuries during his time with the club so far.

The 28-year-old gave an energetic cameo after coming off the bench in Saturday’s goalless draw.

Head coach Williamson says the former Rotherham United man’s eagerness to impress could not be clearer.

“Georgie is a great guy and you can feel his energy when he comes on the football pitch – and his enthusiasm,” said the Blues boss.

“And he's obviously a man mountain as well.

“He wants to drive it and he caused his own opportunities and chances off his own back and that's what he can do.

“We've just got to make sure we're careful and make sure that we have another good week's training and we'll look forward to next week.”

Kelly now gives United another attacking option at a time Charlie Wyke is sidelined for the season.

Williamson welcomed back both Kelly and midfielder Dylan McGeouch to the pitch on Saturday.

The latter was back in the squad last weekend after a calf problem, and made his comeback appearance against Doncaster as a substitute.

Williamson says it is crucial both players are handled carefully in order to keep them fit for as long as possible, following their respective frustrating spells out.

“Just like Georgie, his personality is infectious,” said Williamson of McGeouch.

“Just having him in and around us, he has a positive energy that we enjoy and he understands as well as he's got the quality.

“We’ve just got to make sure we're careful. We want it to be for the long haul, not just coming in and then having to come back out.

“But there are loads of positives with lads coming back and getting good game time.”

United will also welcome defender Ben Barclay back from suspension for Saturday’s home clash with Crewe Alexandra, but Jon Mellish will serve a one-match ban.
