Bookmakers have offered a mixed response to Carlisle United's recent improvement when it comes to their survival chances.

Some bookies have lengthened their relegation odds after going three league games unbeaten.

But others have shortened their prices on the Cumbrians, who are bottom of League Two on goal difference, to go down.

SkyBet are among the bookies who give United a greater chance of staying up than they did a month ago.

They make Carlisle 3/1 to suffer a second successive relegation, having priced the same outcome at 5/2 in late October.

BetVictor have made the same change to United's relegation odds.

But other bookies have seen United's current position as reason to shorten their price for the drop.

Betfair, who priced a Blues relegation at 7/2 a month ago, now make them 11/4 to go down.

BoyleSports have also shortened United's relegation odds from 4/1 to 12/5.

Carlisle sit 24th in League Two after 17 games, level on points with the two sides above them, Morecambe and Swindon Town. The Blues host Crewe Alexandra on Saturday.

Second-bottom Morecambe remain favourites to go down with most bookies, the Shrimps priced 4/5 with Bet365, 5/6 with William Hill and 5/4 with BetVictor.

Carlisle have the next shortest odds with some - although not all, considering 17th-placed Harrogate are rated more likely for the drop by others, the Sulphurites 5/2 for relegation with William Hill and Betfair.

And Newport County, who United face on Saturday week, are also given shorter relegation odds by certain bookies, such as SkyBet and Betfair, who price them 9/4 and 2/1 respectively.

Struggling Swindon are 5/1 for relegation with Betfair and 9/2 with BetFred.

Carlisle's risk of finishing bottom of the table is given a 13/2 chance by SkyBet - out from 5/1 in October - with Morecambe 6/4, Newport 5/1, Harrogate 5/1 and Swindon 6/1.

United, meanwhile, are 7/1 with William Hill to make a surge into the top half of the table come the end of the campaign.

A seemingly unlikely march to the play-offs in the second half of the campaign has odds of 33/1.
