Anton Dudik came close to marking the start of his second month’s loan with South Shields with a goal.

The young Carlisle United striker, who has extended his spell with the National League North club, came off the bench in their clash with Peterborough Sports on Saturday.

And Dudik, on in the 71st minute, was quickly into the action with a dipping shot which deflected just off target.

Dudik and his team-mates were denied a late winner as they had to settle for a 2-2 draw which sees the Mariners 11th in the table.

Next for 19-year-old Dudik and his loan club in the league is a home clash with Rushall Olympic on Tuesday, December 10.

There was late agony for Workington Reds and their two United loanees in the Northern Premier League Premier Division, meanwhile.

Both Jake Allan and Sam Hetherington were in the Reds’ starting line-up as they hosted runaway leaders Macclesfield.

Hetherington played the first 62 minutes before being replaced by veteran David Norris, with Allan replaced on 82 minutes by Lucas Wane.

It remained goalless into the last minute but Robbie Savage’s Macc struck a last-gasp winner through Luke Duffy.

Reds are 12th in the table and next up for Mark Fell’s side and their young Blues loanees is another home clash with Blyth Spartans next weekend.

A third teenage United loanee at Workington, Aran Fitzpatrick, is currently out with a hamstring injury with a fifth Carlisle player out on loan, Josh O’Brien, still unavailable to Carlisle City with an ankle injury.

Ashley Nadesan hit Sutton United’s opener in their 2-0 win over AFC Fylde, while Carl Magnay’s Gateshead drew 2-2 at Braintree Town.

National League North saw Sam Fishburn come off the bench for his Spennymoor Town debut in their 1-1 draw with Buxton, the former Blues striker having joined in a loan swap deal from Scunthorpe United with Will Harris heading the other way.

In NPL Premier, Liam Brockbank and Mark Cullen were on target in Bamber Bridge’s 3-1 win over Leek Town.

A Nic Bollado double featured in Morpeth Town’s 3-3 comeback draw with Matlock Town.

Nathan Thomas and Connor Simpson were both scorers in Whitby Town’s 3-0 win over Lancaster City.

In the FA Cup it was a day to forget for Dan Butterworth, who was sent off in the first half of Swindon Town’s defeat to Accrington Stanley.

Butterworth’s challenge on Liam Coyle was deemed worthy of a straight red card as Swindon went out on penalties after a 2-2 draw.

Elsewhere in the second round, Cedwyn Scott netted in Notts County’s 4-3 defeat at Peterborough United.

Cole Stockton converted a penalty to help Salford City to a 2-0 win over Cheltenham Town.

Keith Millen’s losing start with AFC Croydon Athletic in the Isthmian League South East Division continued with a 3-1 reverse at Sittingbourne.

North of the border, Peter Murphy guided Queen of the South into the Scottish Cup fourth round with a 1-0 win at Arbroath.
