Veteran former Carlisle United winger Nicky Adams is back on the move at 38.

He has left Radcliffe in order to join Bury.

The move sees Adams further his long-standing association with the Shakers.

This will be his fourth spell at Gigg Lane, where he played in separate spells between 2005 and 2019 in the Football League, having originally come through the Shakers' youth set-up.

He is also a coach in Oldham Athletic's academy but remains keen to continue playing.

On his return to Bury, he told the Shakers' website: "I just think it’s the perfect time.

"As soon as I knew the opportunity was there for me to come back, it was just a no-brainer for myself.

“I’ve got a lot of history with this football club. I’m absolutely buzzing and I can’t thank everyone [enough] for making it happen."

Bury boss Dave McNabb described Adams as "a hero to the club and the fans", adding: “He will bring a huge amount of experience and quality into the group just as we approach a critical part of the season.

“It moved really quickly over the last few days and I was so impressed with Nicky’s attitude and his hunger for the game in general but in particular his passion for this football club.”

Adams had been a key figure at Radcliffe, captaining them in their recent rise to National League North.

He will now bid to help third-placed Bury to promotion from the North West Counties Football League Premier Division.

The winger was on United's books from 2016 to 2018, making 69 appearances and scoring three goals.

He was a multiple player of the year at the club in the 2016/17 play-off season for his outstanding performances under Keith Curle.

His second campaign was dashed by an anterior cruciate knee ligament injury.

Adams, who had previously also played for Leicester City, Rochdale, Leyton Orient, Brentford, Crawley Town, Rotherham United and Northampton Town, went on to rejoin Bury and helped both the Shakers and Curle's Northampton to promotion before a spell with Oldham.

Radcliffe, where he had played since 2022, said Adams would depart as one of their greatest-ever captains. He paid tribute to the club and its fans for his memorable time there.
