Carlisle United have confirmed that no professional contracts have been offered to their second-year youth team players.

Eight teenagers are being released by the Brunton Park club, with just one further player being retained for "further assessment".

The Blues have also confirmed that development coach Vince Overson is following academy manager Alan Moore out of United - a move first revealed by the News & Star.

Moore is joining Preston while Overson's contract is not being renewed.

The pair have left the club today, with long-serving coach David Wilkes set to take the Under-18 side for their final game of the season at Morecambe tomorrow.

Carlisle did not reveal the identity of the player to be given extra time to impress manager Keith Curle, but it is understood to be winger Arron Bradbury.

It means there is no future at United for young players like Matty Douglas and Carl Taylor, who have been involved with the first-team squad, the latter making a sub appearance against Hartlepool on the final day of the 2014/15 campaign.

Unless Bradbury earns a deal, it will leave Mark Gillespie and Patrick Brough as the only home-grown players in the Carlisle squad next season.

It is understood that Moore and Overson had recommended that some of the second-year players were given a pro deal.

The teenagers were informed of their fate last Thursday.

Curle has yet to comment, with finance director Suzanne Kidd the only club official to comment in a short statement today.

"One player has been retained to be given an opportunity for further integration into the first-team environment," she said.

"We wish all the other lads the very best as they now look to take the next step elsewhere, and we will help them in any way we can."

United have advertised for a new academy manager.

The Blues, meanwhile, say season-ticket renewals are "significantly up" on the same stage last season.

The club said 436 fans have renewed their tickets compared with 252 last year.

A six-game saving is on offer until Friday, May 6, the initiative having been launched by United after three home games had to be played away from Brunton Park following the December floods.
