Workington Comets’ unbeaten home Premier League record finally came to an end as the impressive Glasgow Tigers romped to a 51-39 win.
Maryport rider and former Comet Richard Lawson shot away from the gate in heat one, with Ricky Wells breathing down his neck before the Tiger pulled clear.
Mason Campton was under pressure from Lunna behind the pair and was eventually passed by the visitor after an entertaining tussle when his steel shoe detached on the third lap.
Adam Roynon and Matt Williamson bolted in heat two before Fernando Garcia reeled in the pair to share the points.
The returning Rene Bach combined with Aaron Summers for an easy 5-1 in heat three as the tricky surface caused problems for the hosts.
Claus Vissing had no such trouble, romping round well clear of the pack while Williamson just about held off Danny Ayres until the final lap when the Glasgow man pipped him.
Comets gated on a 5-1 in heat five and Jensen produced a clever block to prevent Lawson storming around the outside on the second bend, while Hansen used all of his nous to deter the Tiger and hold on for a pr ecious result to level up the scores.
Wells burst to the front in heat six and was almost joined by Campton but the Glasgow pair shrugged off his advances and the field became stretched for another draw.
A rocket of a start saw Summers lead in heat seven until Bach breezed around the outside to take the flag ahead of his teammate and Vissing as the away side replenished their lead.
Campton produced top drawer three laps in heat eight but couldn’t hold on ahead of Lunna, although Williamson got the better of Ayres to secure a Comets 4-2.
An imperious ride from Worrall in heat nine was enough to frustrate Hansen and Jensen as Glasgow maintained their slender lead.
Bach looked untouchable again in 10, leading from Wells by some distance while Campton floundered behind Summers.
Lawson started well in heat 11 but Vissing was quicker and muscled his way past the Tigers No1 to take a vital win, although Roynon struggled at the back for a 3-3.
Hansen battled hard to finish second ahead of Garcia in heat 12 but couldn’t close the gap to Summers as the meeting began to slip away from Workington.
A top drawer four laps from Lawson left Wells no chance of a win in heat 13 and the Comets skipper couldn’t keep Worrall at bay either as Glasgow sealed the win and in doing so dealt Comets their first home league loss since August 2014, when the Tigers were also the victors.
Jensen and Roynon then rode around comfortably without really troubling Bach in the penultimate heat.
Wells and Hansen got the nod in the final heat and although the latter retired, the skipper rode his heart out to deny Bach a maximum on his Workington return and share the points in the last race.
