Carlisle Light Switch on 2023
Each year an event takes place outside the old Town Hall in the centre of Carlisle to begin the celebrations of Christmas! Last year, in 2022 the event was headlined by popstar Simon Webbe and also featured Britain’s Got Talent’s Twist and Pulse. It was held by Britain’s Got Talent comedian Jonny Awsum. Performers such as Carlisle Dance Academy, Rocket Theatre School, Belle View school choir and Jordyn Louise Dance also attended the light switch on and entertained the crowd.
Organised by the Cumberland Council, the light switch on suitable for all ages, will take place on the 19th November 2023 between 3:00pm and 5:30pm. The annual event will include local performers such as Studio A dance academy, Castle Carrock Primary School, Committed 2 Rock Community Choir and Newtown Primary School. This year the one and only Chesney Hawkes, a popular actor singer and song writer, will be attending. At aged 19 Chesney starred as the lead role in the film “Buddy’s Song” as well as gaining huge success from his first single “The One and Only” in the 90s. The popstar will be attending alongside Saxophonist Vicki Watson who is able to perform in many styles from jazz to classic, rock and pop as well as performing all over the world at many different events. Carlisle united manager Paul Simpson who helped secure promotion to league one at Wembley will also be making a guest appearance at the light switch on. Finally, a local favourite Robbie Dee will be hosting the show. The twinkling lights will be triggered at 5:00pm so make sure to attend along with your friends and family!
