THE SECRET IS OUT…
After a quiet few years, Victoria’s Secret has made its return.
Just not in the way we once knew it.
The world renowned lingerie house once ruled the runway with their annual fashion show which was broadcasted in over 100 countries, viewed by millions and often referred to as the ‘‘Super Bowl of fashion’’. Comprising of supermodels gracing the runway alongside musical talents such as The Weeknd and Taylor Swift, the fashion show stood out from any other and was once the most watched fashion event of its time. However, after slams of the brand promoting ‘unhealthy lifestyles’ and ‘unrealistic body types’, Victoria’s Secret cancelled their annual event and supposedly faced an identity crisis causing their angels to fall into retirement after their last runway show in 2018.
It has been made apparent that inclusivity is becoming a central element to any successful fashion company in the modern age. With companies aiming to incorporate all body shapes, sizes and figures into their runways and latest collections.
As a result, Victoria’s Secret has made it their mission to rebrand and give themselves a whole new identity, a story which has been told in the form of a documentary which was recently aired on Prime video during the month of September. ‘The Tour ‘23’ looks at the creative lives of artists from countries across the globe such as Lagos and Barcelona. Additionally there are also cameos from previous Victoria’s Secret models such as Candice Swanepoel and Gigi Hadid whilst also having exclusive appearances from pop artists such as Doja Cat.
Despite having a mixed reaction from the public, it is clear Victoria’s Secret has managed to embrace bodily autonomy and create a safe space for women of all race, gender and shape to showcase themselves and their work.
